Transmission Line Designer


RLC is looking for a Transmission Line Designer to join our Power Delivery group in Hallowell, ME.

The designer position at RLC requires the successful candidate be willing to perform design/cadd services in multiple disciplines. Required for this position is a person who is willing to assume a task specific and project support role in engineering design activities related to transmission & distribution projects. Desired is the ability to support substation, power distribution, renewable project design and protection and control scheme development projects in a design or Cadd capacity. All assigned tasks will be overseen by the assigned Lead Discipline Engineer.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinate the work of draftspersons and other designers in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and QA procedures
  2. Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using CAD software as required
  3. Perform conceptual layout work with the guidance of the technical lead
  4. Develop design details (may be plan and profile, framing details, or Outline drawings)
  5. Check drawings prior to release
  6. Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines
  7. Perform clash detection of drawings with other discipline drawings (or models if 3D is introduced)
  8. In conjunction with engineering staff, prepare design concepts for both internal and client review
  9. In conjunction with engineering staff, produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects
  10. Participation in formal engineering review processes
  11. Verify onsite dimensions relating to existing facilities against reference documents, drawings received, and proposed designs



Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Associates degree or equivalent in Engineering or drafting
  2. Minimum of 5 + years design experience
  3. Experience within a multidisciplinary project
  4. Ability to design and draw utilizing 3 Dimensional thinking (even if it is drawn in 2D)
  5. Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
  6. Understanding of other discipline requirements
  7. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Word and Excel
  8. Experience with PLS-CADD a plus
  9. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  10. High attention to detail
